Dining Reviews for Sky

Dining aboard the NCL Sky has varied reviews. One NCL Sky reviewer appreciated the flexibility of dining at will without facing prolonged waits, except for minor queues at the omelet station. Although there was often a wait for seating in the Main Dining Rooms, they found the experience enjoyable thanks to the buzzer system and nearby bar, making the short wait feel less tedious. Highlighting the three-tiered dining options available—buffet, restaurant, and fine dining—the reviewer praised the buffet, emphasizing that expectations for dining should be set appropriately, with comparisons best kept within similar dining categories. See quote below.

Conversely, another review was less favorable about the food quality, noting dishes were sometimes dried out, overcooked, or mislabeled, with unexpected spice levels. This reviewer remarked on the absence of traditional cruise staples like lobster tails and prime cuts in the Main Dining Room, such as prime rib or filet mignon, something they’ll miss having experienced on other cruise lines. With over ten cruises under their belt, this was a notable deviation from their usual dining expectations, leaving them somewhat underwhelmed.

Food was great. Read many comments, but many are comparing buffet food to restaurant food, not a fair comparison. There were basically 3 levels of food choices: buffet, restaurant, and fine dining. The buffets were very good, in my opinion.

Entertainment on Board NCL Sky

The entertainment offerings on the NCL Sky provide mixed experiences, as echoed by different passengers. One passenger recounted with enthusiasm their delight in the live music that permeated the ship, especially the bands that performed poolside and in various lounges at night. Though they skipped the stage shows, they felt well-entertained by the lounge acts. They noted the Newlywed and Not So Newlywed Game as a consistent hit, synonymous with cruise fun, while mentioning The Perfect Couple Game as slightly more risqué, suggesting it might not suit everyone’s taste. Something a little old fashioned but may be appealing to families and couples.

However, another cruiser found the entertainment on their longer voyage somewhat lacking in variety. They enjoyed the limited productions, including a comedian featured multiple times, which were well-received. The Deal or No Deal night did not resonate as expected; the anticipated interactive experience was likened more to a game of bingo than a theatrical performance and offered no significant showmanship. The tribute to rock legends Queen and the Beatles by the ship’s house band was a bright spot, yet, the repetition across the 10-night cruise felt insufficient, leaving them desiring fresher entertainment options.

This is a SMALL ship. For anyone who has cruised on a bigger ship, you will find the space and the options limiting. Great for first time cruisers though. The ship is clean and well kept. However, there are hallways with a musty smell and are not enjoyable.

Overall the feeling for this reviewer is that entertainmnet on NCL Sky was limited and somewhat repetitive. But perhaps not surprising given the small size of this ship.

Cabin reviews for Norwegian Sky

Guests aboard the NCL Sky have shared mixed experiences regarding the cabins, noting both positive aspects and areas for improvement. One reviewer praised their cabin for its great size and comfortable king-sized bed. They appreciated the balcony and unique porthole window, although leaving the door open at night caused a distracting suction wind noise. The air temperature in the room was easily adjustable, allowing them to maintain comfort throughout their stay. Despite the small bathroom, they found the shower’s water pressure unexpectedly excellent, and the adjustable handheld feature was a welcomed addition. Compared to expectations, they found the living conditions to be quite satisfactory, with minor adjustments tailored to their personal comfort. Read more.

However, not every experience was as favorable. Another passenger expressed surprise and frustration with the inside cabin choices, discovering upon arrival that there are two different sizes available, both at the same price. The reviewer was allocated the smaller version, which made maneuverability around the bed difficult and offered limited storage space. This discrepancy in cabin sizes led to some dissatisfaction, as initial advertisements did not illustrate the smaller option, causing a less transparent booking experience. Find out more.

With all cabin reviews, it very much depends on the position and type of cabin the passenger chose – or was given. Overall regarding NCL Sky the cabin reviews are not the most favorable. But it could be that only people who were very dissatisfied with this aspect of their cruise decided to write a review about it.

We had a balcony cabin mid ship on deck 10 and it was quiet and an excellent location. However, it was TINY. We walked in when we embarked and were shocked.

What’s the Crew Like on board NCL Sky?

The crew aboard the NCL Sky has been widely praised for their friendly demeanor and exceptional service, contributing significantly to the overall cruising experience. One passenger highlighted the extraordinary efforts of their concierge, Lyster Dias, who went above and beyond to ensure their journey was memorable. With over 15 years of cruising experience, the reviewer hailed Lyster as one of the best they have encountered, hoping for another encounter with him on future voyages. This enthusiastic commendation underscores the positive impact that attentive and dedicated crew members have on passengers’ trips. Learn more.

Similarly, another traveler recounted a stellar experience with the crew’s service throughout their cruise. From embarkation to departure, they were greeted with smiles and helpfulness, describing the crew as top-notch. Their steward, Jesus Ramos, took extra measures to accommodate their needs by removing a small couch that was unnecessary for their travel party. Such personalized attention and flexibility from the crew members enhance the cruising experience, leaving guests with warm memories of their time on board the NCL Sky. Discover more.

One thing that always stands out among reviewers of NCL cruises is that the service is always very friendly.

How Crowded is NCL Sky

When it comes to crowding on the NCL Sky, various reviews paint a picture of congestion and limited space. One reviewer expressed their disappointment with the lack of variety and availability of onboard activities, particularly when inclement weather forced a sea day. This lack of preparation by the crew resulted in most public areas becoming overcrowded during these times, leaving passengers with fewer options to enjoy a comfortable experience review. Furthermore, another review described the scene at the pools and hot tubs, which were packed with college kids partying to loud music and resulting in long lines at the bars. For individuals not keen on a constant party atmosphere, this ship may not provide the tranquility they seek review.

Adding to the congestion concerns, it’s important to note that the NCL Sky is a relatively small ship, as highlighted in another review. For those accustomed to larger vessels, the ship may feel limiting in terms of space and options, despite its cleanliness and well-maintained condition. While these characteristics might appeal to first-time cruisers, seasoned travelers might find the tight environments, along with the occasional musty hallways, less than ideal for a leisurely journey.

Clearly you won’t find partying college kids on a trans-continental cruise. But the size of this ship is certainly something to consider. Many cruise passengers prefer a smaller ship.

Spa & Gym Reviews

The spa facilities on the NCL Sky have received mixed reviews regarding their size and quality. One reviewer noted that the spa area was relatively small, leading to a crowded waiting room. They expressed disappointment, finding it more akin to a standard local beauty parlor rather than a glamorous, high-end retreat. This review suggests that passengers looking for an indulgent spa experience might not find what they’re searching for on this NCL ship review.

As for the pool and gym areas, they have their share of challenges as well. Another review mentioned that the adults-only rule around the pool was not strictly enforced, with older kids frequently found in those areas. This situation led to mixed perceptions, as some passengers found the setup, including a whirlpool positioned by the kiddie pool, convenient for parents. However, it seems these lapses in rule enforcement could contribute to a less relaxing environment for those seeking a more adult-oriented space review.

General Comments

In several reviews across the internet, NCL Cruise Lines‘ smaller ships have received mixed feedback from travelers. Some guests appreciate these compact vessels for being well-kept and clean, making them appealing, particularly for first-time cruisers. However, the space and options available can feel limiting, especially for those accustomed to larger ships. Additionally, there have been mentions of musty smells lingering in certain hallways, detracting from an otherwise maintained environment (source).

Overall, we really came to enjoy the small ship, mostly because of her excellent crew and beautiful renovation but the Sky would not be the choice for us next time. We are definitely looking forward to another cruise with NCL but for sure will be on a bigger ship with more to do onboard and more spacious cabins

On the other hand, some reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the older, smaller ships offered by NCL. The limited amenities and recurring practical issues, such as malfunctioning key cards, were notable inconveniences for some guests (source). Furthermore, an overpoweringly foul smell in particular public areas of the ship contributed to a less-than-ideal experience. These issues combined have led to some travelers suggesting improvements are necessary to enhance the overall cruise experience.

It seems clear that the strategy for Norwegian Cruise Lines is to use this smaller, older vessel on longer voyages catering to older/retired passenges who want to do longer voyages and round-the-world type itineraries. For those looking for the voyage and are less concerned with the onbaord expeirence, NCL Sky might be a great choice.
