Ten things I love (and hate) about you : a frank review of NCL Norwegian Bliss.

NCL Bliss Dining Reviews

The dining experiences on the Norwegian Bliss seem to evoke mixed reactions among cruisers. One reviewer was thoroughly impressed, stating that the “food was way, way beyond our expectations,” highlighting the buffet’s “extraordinary selection” and recommending the Taste and Savor venues over the Manhattan Room for dinner.

In contrast, another reviewer faced challenges, particularly with the temperature and accuracy of their meals. They noted that “Dining was a challenge” and mentioned having to “send back breakfast meals 4 times out of 6 times while dining in Savor” due to incorrect orders and cold food.

Bliss Entertainment Reviews

Entertainment on the Norwegian Bliss receives mixed reviews, with highlights and some less impressive moments. One reviewer praised the bartenders’ hard work despite the crowds at the “free open bar,” though they pointed out a hidden cost: “There is a $278 charge for your ‘free open bar,’ which they call, ironically, a ‘Free At Sea’ charge.”

Another reviewer focused on the onboard shows, noting that the musical “Six” was “fun to see once,” while the juggler was “amusing” but not remarkable. However, they raved about “Jersey Boys,” calling it “the best show by far,” with “extremely talented” performers and a highly entertaining experience.

The “free open bar” is a very popular feature, and many people took advantage of it so sometimes it was crowded, but manageable

Cabins on NCL Bliss

Cabins on the Norwegian Bliss seem to offer contrasting experiences, depending on your perspective. One reviewer loved their spacious cabin, praising the “large and roomy” design with “plenty of storage” for all their belongings. They enjoyed a prime location on the starboard side, which allowed them to watch as the ship docked at various ports. The highlight for this reviewer was the breathtaking views from the balcony, particularly waking up to “snow-capped mountains,” making for a memorable and serene experience.

On the other hand, another reviewer’s experience in a club suite was less than ideal. While the room itself was “quite good” with a larger shower, they were disappointed by the lack of privacy on their extended balcony. They noted that “every other room above you can see into ALL of your extended balcony,” leading to unpleasant surprises like finding “towels, papers, cigarette butts,” and even questionable substances on their deck. This lack of privacy, coupled with the cabin’s otherwise standard interior, left them questioning if the upgrade was worth it.

Crowds on Norwegian Bliss – Reviews

Crowdedness on the Norwegian Bliss seems to be a common concern among passengers, with some areas of the ship feeling particularly congested. One reviewer mentioned that while the ship is “nicely appointed,” its size leads to frequent overcrowding. With 4,700 passengers onboard, they found that “elevators and gangways get extremely crowded and chaotic at every port.” Despite the crowds, they appreciated the spacious lounge access provided by their Studio cabin, which featured a “computerized coffee machine” and a unique Northwestern theme.

Another reviewer echoed similar sentiments, noting that the ship “felt really crowded,” especially in the atrium where many activities take place. They suggested that the ship should utilize the showroom for some events, as finding seating in the atrium was often a challenge. The crowded atmosphere detracted from their experience, making it difficult to fully enjoy the activities offered.

Pool & Spa on NCL Bliss

The pool and spa facilities on the Norwegian Bliss draw a range of reactions from passengers. One reviewer raved about their thermal spa pass, describing it as “amazing.” They enjoyed all the spa rooms, particularly the heated recliners, where they found the experience so relaxing that they “fell asleep once and slept 2 hours without realizing it.”

However, another passenger found the pool area to be chaotic, especially on sea days. They noted that finding a spot in the sun was “impossible” unless you reserved chairs as early as 6:30 a.m., leading to a frustrating scene where many chairs remained “reserved” but unoccupied. With limited waitstaff and packed bars, the pool area felt like a “zoo.” On a more positive note, another reviewer appreciated the adult pool, mentioning that it was “heated to a comfortable water temperature.” They also enjoyed the waterslide, describing it as “the smoothest ride I have been on.”

NCL Bliss features The Haven – much as on other Norwegian ships, this is a zoned-off spa featuring its own dining options.

Overall Thoughts on Norwegian Bliss

Reading through the reviews on Norwegian Bliss, it’s clear that the ship offers a mix of experiences, with some passengers walking away delighted, while others felt disappointed. On the positive side, several reviewers praised the ship’s cleanliness, attentive staff, and quality entertainment. One reviewer highlighted that “the food, entertainment, and staff on the ship are great,” specifically mentioning how enjoyable the shows “SIX and Jersey Boys” were. In fact, all reviewers pointed out how brilliant Jersey Boys is as a show.

The cabin experience also received commendations, with another reviewer appreciating the comfort and quietness of their balcony room, noting that “extra storage under the bed was very handy.” But if the storage under the bed is the best thing you can think to say about a cruise ship, that isn’t exactly a glowing review.

However, the cruise had its drawbacks, particularly regarding the cost and value for money. Several reviewers (including this one) mention their frustration with Norwegian’s pricing strategy, stating that the line “plays ‘games’ with the amenities, upgrades, etc.,” and felt that the cruise was “WAY overpriced.” Another reviewer echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that while Norwegian makes many things appear “free,” these perks often cover only a small fraction of the actual cost. Additionally, some were disappointed by the limited and repetitive menu options in the main dining venues, despite enjoying the service at Taste. To be fair though, this is a tactic employed by all cruise lines, not just NCL : if you’re going on a cruise, you have to expect some degree of this.

Specifically to do with value for money – this is a hugely subjective metric. Some passengers pay a fraction of what others do, and there is gulf between what some consider good value and others “overpriced”.

In the end, it’s a mixed bag for Norwegian Bliss. A large ship, with 4000 passengers can feel crowded at times, but – as with everything in life – it’s what you make it. I hope these review summaries were useful. If you have your own experience of Bliss, feel free to leave it in the comments!
